Detroit + Toronto: Drivers for a Healthy City (a Symposium)
8:30 am to 5:30 pm, Oct. 25, the Carlu, Toronto
This Symposium is a chance to reinvigorate discourse, trade, movement, cultural exchange, and investment between two great cities linked by history, industry, and culture.

Entrepreneurs, activists, politicians, city staff, and developers will come together to propose innovative ideas in urban development; to investigate emerging issues in collaborative city building; and to discover opportunities for investment in both Toronto and Detroit.

A range of dynamic speakers will broach topics such as: Detroit 2.0: stabilization and redevelopment outside the downtown core; the rapid redevelopment of derelict historic skyscrapers; creative economies in the post-industrial city; philanthropy, public engagement, poverty, and prosperity in the post-industrial urban economy; and what is in store for Toronto and what kind of city do we want for tomorrow?

Confirmed Toronto participants include former Chief Planner Paul Bedford; Councillors Karen Stintz and Kristyn Wong-Tam; Matt Blackett, Spacing Magazine; Cynthia MacDougall, McCarthy Tétrault; Kevin Stolarick, Martin Prosperity Institute; and Michael McClelland and Scott Weir, ERA Architects.

Confirmed Detroit participants include Mark Denson, Detroit Economic Growth Corp.; Brian Rebain, Kraemer Design Group; Kyle Polk, Detroit Future City; Abir Ali, Ali Sandifer Studio; David Egner, Hudson Webber Fdn. and NEI; Mark Nickita, ArchiveDS; Charity Hicks, EAT4HEALTH;and Matthew Clayson, Detroit Creative Corridor Center.

The day will be split into four sessions, each including short presentations and time for Q&A. It will be a great learning opportunity and a chance for exciting new Toronto-Detroit collaboration.
